Khamail Hassan Karam teaches mathematics and physics to high school boys in the Accelerated Learning Program (AL) in Diwaniyah, a three-hour drive south of Baghdad. “I was not sure what the AL Program entailed, but I submitted my resume because I wanted a job. I attended a meeting where the AL Coordinator, Martina Nicolls, introduced the program and interviewed me. Then I wanted to be so much involved.” Khamail enjoys teaching her students because, “they are so enthusiastic that they overwhelm me.”
