40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/GLOBAL: GENDER SPECIALIST PANELISTS FOR THE COALITION CONFERENCE ON GENDER

Date: October - November 1991

Creative assembled a panel of four gender specialists from U.S. universities and a moderator to present the latest research on girls' education at the Coalition Conference on Gender in the fall of 1991 under the USAID-funded Advancing Basic Education and Literacy (ABEL I) project....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/GLOBAL: LESSONS LEARNED IN BASIC EDUCATION IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD

Date: January 1990 to September 1990

Creative organized the two-day USAID sponsored Basic Education Conference to discuss and analyze findings for improving basic education in developing countries, based on the consolidated research and operational experiences of representatives of 16 institutions and donor agencies. The forum addressed quality basic education for women, strategic planning and management improvement, use of instructional technologies and teacher training. The conclusions of the workshop are contained in two documents: "Basic Education: Lessons Learned," a foldout brochure highlighting effective strategies in the four issue areas; and a 60-page report, "Lessons Learned in Basic Education in the Developing World," which provides one-page summaries of the research findings and supporting documentation for additional information. ...

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/GLOBAL: USAID WORKSHOP TO ASSESS ITS EXPERIENCE SUPPORTING BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Date: January 1994

USAID's experience supporting basic education programs aimed at achieving policy reform was the focus of a workshop held at USAID's AFR/ARTS office in Harare, Zimbabwe. Creative provided insight into the issues surrounding impact assessment and the application of methods of evaluation to USAID staff working in basic education programs in 12 African countries. ...

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/MALAWI: ASSESSMENT OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC FACTORS AFFECTING GIRLS` EDUCATION PERSISTENCE AND FEMALE EMPLOYMENT IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR

Date: July - October 1990

Creative’s team of experts evaluated policy and institutional constraints to female participation and persistence in primary and secondary schools and employment in the education sector, taking into account urban and rural differences. Special emphasis was placed on examining central policies--versus district-level practices--that affect the availability of female teachers and other education personnel in rural areas. Creative recommended strategies for addressing the constraints most amenable to change. This "pre-design" project was carried out under the USAID-funded Advancing Basic Education & Literacy (ABEL I) project....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/MALAWI: GENDER ISSUES IN THE CLASSROOM–A CASE STUDY AND TEACHING NOTE FOR TEACHER TRAINERS

Date: February - March 1991

The importance of gender issues in education, teacher modeling of gender awareness and classroom practices and attitudes as they impact girls’ and boys’ school participation and academic achievement were the focus of teacher training materials. The case study and teaching note, "Gender Issues in the Classroom: A Case Study for Teacher Trainees in Malawi," were then used in teacher training test cases developed in consultation with the Director of Curriculum Development and Textbook Revision....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/MALAWI: GUIDELINES FOR GIRLS` ATTAINMENT IN BASIC EDUCATION & LITERACY PROJECT

Date: May - June 1990

Creative collaborated with the USAID Mission and the Ministry of Education and Culture to develop the principal guiding document for USAID's Girls' Attainment in Basic Education and Literacy (GABLE) project. GABLE's objective was to increase girls' access, persistence, and completion of primary school. Creative's team reviewed the capacity to implement GABLE activities; assessed GABLE's budget in relation to donor demands, government budgetary policy, and data required for cost-benefit analysis; designed a social mobilization campaign to increase girls' attendance in primary school by targeting parents who were not sending their daughters to school; and prepared a social feasibility analysis to determine constraints to carrying out the GABLE project and strategies for project success and evaluation....
