40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

BEPS: LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN: FIRST HEMISPHERIC CONFERENCE ON INDIGENOUS EDUCATION

Date: July 2001

Creative designed, implemented, and managed the First Hemispheric Conference on Indigenous Education held in Guatemala City. Practitioners, policymakers, researchers and donors from several countries convened for three days to exchange experiences and best practices in the areas of teacher training, curriculum and materials development and dissemination, community participation, preschool preparation, and policy. ...

 

 

BEPS: ROMANIA: COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Date: October 2003 - June 2004

Romania’s geography, widespread poverty and unemployment make it a target for the exploitation of women and children by sex traffickers. A pilot project in northeastern Romania, launched by USAID’s Basic Education Policy Support Activity (BEPS), used education to reach the public, parents, educators and youth about child prostitution and trafficking. It provided high school students, institutionalized children and trafficking survivors with the knowledge needed to find income-producing employment and established a system to identify and monitor at-risk-youth....

 

 

BEPS/ BURUNDI, DRC AND LIBERIA: OTI COMMUNITY REINTEGRATION

Date: November 2004 - July 2005

Creative conducted extensive evaluations of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives’ Community-focused Reintegration (CFR) programs in Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia, which were modeled on a similar program in Sierra Leone. The final report, “Community-focused Reintegration,” describes the programs, lessons learned and best practices. It affirmed the importance of reintegrating ex-combatants and having a safe environment for reuniting communities emerging from conflict. BEPS/ LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN: ENHANCING HUMAN RESOURCE CAPACITY IN USAID`S LAC BUREAU FOR IMPLEMENTING EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

Date: September 2000 - February 2005

Creative provided technical support for the implementation of basic education activities to the Education and Human Resource Unit of USAID's Latin American and Caribbean Bureau/Office of Regional Sustainable Development. Creative and the rest of the BEPS team provided a mechanism for USAID to analyze existing strategies and activities, to introduce innovative changes for improving basic education, and to document USAID success stories and programs that have been brought to scale or adopted by other donors or host country governments....

 

 

BEPS/ LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN: HUMAN CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT FOR USAID CARIBBEAN REGIONAL PROGRAM

Date: October - November 2003

USAID’s Caribbean Regional Program (USAID/CRP) identified four areas of intervention needed in the region: improving economic competitiveness, strengthening the rule of law, protecting the environment, and combating HIV/AIDS. The migration of highly-educated people made it difficult to find qualified personnel to fill key positions. Creative conducted interviews in five countries that looked at why people leave and do not return to the region, which led to a series of general and specific recommendations. ...

 

 

BEPS/ LATIN AMERICA: EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAMA DE PROMOCION DE LA REFORMA EDUCATIVA EN AMERICA LATINA (PREAL)

Date: November 2000 - May 2001

Programa de Promocion de la Reforma Educativa en America Latina (PREAL) is a USAID-sponsored program that worked with a network of 22 public and private organizations in 14 Latin American countries to promote regional education reform. Creative led the BEPS assessment team in exploring PREAL's success in building public/private sector support and partnerships to improve education and in identifying best educational policies and procedures.
