40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/MALI: INTEGRATION OF GENDER ACTIVITIES IN BASIC EDUCATION

Date: November 1992

Creative assessed the reasons for girls' low participation in the formal school system to determine how best to integrate gender awareness into USAID's Basic Education Expansion Project (BEEP). Creative proposed a range of activities, including teacher training and curriculum revisions, to assist the different components of BEEP take gender into consideration. By incorporating the proposed gender activities/considerations into BEEP, it was expected that the percentages of girls' enrollment and retention in primary schools would increase....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/MALI/EVALUATION OF EXPERIMENTATION IN NATIONAL LANGUAGES IN PRIMARY EDUCATION

Date: April - June 1990

Instruction in the national languages is considered important in increasing educational equity for girls and poor children. Creative conducted a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of Mali's experimentation in using national languages in primary education, using tests and questionnaires targeted to measure what children have learned in two different types of schools. The final report contained recommendations on the use of national languages in elementary schools....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/NAMIBIA: LONGITUDINAL EVALUATION OF BASIC EDUCATION REFORM PROGRAM

Date: February 1992 - February 1994

Creative conducted a longitudinal evaluation of Namibia's Basic Education Reform Program to assess and document progress toward long-term goals and provide a framework for renegotiating agreements on annual project outcomes. Working closely with the Ministry of Education, the annual evaluation employed a highly interactive "Fourth Generation" methodology to collect data, as well as provide a program review workshop for education leaders. ...

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/SOUTH AFRICA: FEDERATED UNION OF BLACK ARTS (FUBA) ACADEMY ASSESSMENT

Date: August - September 1991

The status, progress and prospects for the Federated Union of Black Arts (FUBA) Academy were evaluated against the backdrop of South Africa’s changing political environment. Creative, working under the USAID-funded Advancing Basic Education and Literacy (ABEL I) project, evaluated the capacities and activities of FUBA in the areas of management, finance, curriculum, examinations, publicity and student/faculty recruitment. FUBA’s staff and board received information on their day-to-day activities as well as proposals for long-term restructuring and consolidation of FUBA's activities, with particular attention to strategies for achieving financial self-sufficiency....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/SOUTH AFRICA: LONG-TERM TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Date: June 1991 - June 1993

Non-governmental organizations working to transform South Africa’s educational system post-apartheid received training and technical assistance, including the facilitation of networking among educational NGOs, seminars, and workshops; direct assistance to individual grantees; and assistance with travel to and training in the United States, third countries and South Africa. Working in collaboration with local partners, Creative achieved the objectives through the following activities: the efficient delivery of educational services, the aggregation and focusing of appropriate NGO demands on the South Africa government for increased authority and negotiations with the government over control of or input into education issues. ...

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/SOUTH AFRICA: PRIMARY EDUCATION SECTOR ASSESSMENT

Date: March - May 1991

Under the USAID-funded Advancing Basic Education & Literacy (ABEL I) project, Creative assessed South Africa’s post-apartheid primary education sector, developing strategies that USAID could employ to help achieve the goal of a non-racial, unitary, compulsory primary education system. Creative designed and administered training programs for educational non-government organizations on program evaluation and advised on implementation problems associated with Education Policy Options activities....
