40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/GHANA: INVOLVING COMMUNITIES: APPLYING RESEARCH TO GIRLS` EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Date: November 1998 - November 1999

Working with the Ghanaian chapter of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), an African NGO that creates educational opportunities for girls, Creative developed and tested a community involvement process supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Education and FAWE/Ghana. This included interactive presentations on best practices for improving girls' education and community participation; training on applying gender research to improve existing programs; and a feedback session on lessons learned in order to modify current programs and plan new strategies in Ghana and in other African countries where FAWE operates....

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/GLOBAL: REFINEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL POLICY AND PLANNING TOOL

Date: September - October 1996

Creative conducted a variety of activities to refine and test the Education Policy Simulation (EPICS), a computer-aided educational policy and planning tool developed to model the dynamics of educational policymaking and planning in a low-income country. It simulates a realistic environment in which to experience and experiment with fundamental concepts and issues in planning for educational change and provides an opportunity to explore the relationship between education and development at the national, regional and community levels. ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/GLOBAL: REVIEW OF COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Date: April - July 1997

Community participation is an effective strategy in delivering education and leads to better learning for more students. Creative reviewed several studies on ongoing and previously implemented participation strategies and, where necessary, traveled to the field to review the projects first hand. Countries visited included the Philippines, Kenya and Nicaragua. Results of this review and suggestions for future ways to utilize these interventions are contained in the report, “Involving Communities.”...

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/GUINEA: EDUCATION SECTOR REFORM PROJECT

Date: September 1995 - March 1997

In the face of one of the world’s lowest primary education rates, particularly among girls and rural children, the Education Sector Reform Project focused on increasing access to primary education through policy reform and better management of scarce financial and human resources. Creative provided technical assistance in strategic management practices and in the development of a curriculum responsive to the needs of girls and rural children. This work was aimed at preparing the Ministry of Pre-University Education for anticipated reforms planned under the Education Sector Reform Project's successor, the Fundamental Quality and Equity Level project....

 

 

ABEL II/ HAITI: TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO USAID IN HAITI

Date: May - July 1995

The return of a democratically elected government resulted in new opportunities to expand education in both the public and private sectors. Creative assisted USAID/Haiti in analyzing background information and identifying options for the Reforming Educational Services and Technologies to Offer Resources to the Economy (RESTORE) project. Deliverables included policy recommendations for educational development drawn from discussions with key stakeholders in the education, employment and democracy sectors....

 

 

ABEL II/ MALAWI: GENDER AWARENESS TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR TEACHER TRAINERS

Date: September - October 1996

Creative designed and provided a gender awareness training workshop for primary and secondary school teacher trainers as well as curriculum developers from the Institute of Education. The workshop was based on Creative’s publication, "Beyond Enrollment: A Handbook for Improving Girls' Experiences in Primary Classrooms." Its outcome included the creation of a network of teacher trainers, experienced in developing gender-sensitive materials, who could work together in the future to develop additional materials and discuss best practices. ...
