GETTING TO KNOW MEAGHAN KOUDELKA

Meaghan is a Senior Program Associate in the Economic Growth Division, which works to build strong private sectors and develop skilled workforces that attract investment, create jobs and improve the standard of living in communities across the globe.

Please tell us about your area(s) of expertise.
In my role as Senior Program Associate, I serve as the Acting Program Manager for the USAID-funded West Africa Trade and Investment Hub providing backstop support and also serve as a business development coordinator supporting the efforts of Economic Growth’s Business Development Manager. Through these roles, I have supported financial monitoring, management of a grant facility, and have facilitated collaborative, learning & adaptation (CLA) assignments along with supporting division-wide efforts on youth and market systems approaches.

Do you have an accomplishment, programmatic result or activity that you are particularly proud of?

One of my main accomplishments is the culmination of my graduate degree. During this time, my capstone team and I were able to research and provide recommendations on how to best provide, increase and promote climate-related finance for small-scale agriculture to the United States Agency of International Development (USAID). This was extremely relevant as the Biden administration had just completed their transition and the United States reentered the Paris Agreement.

Through this work, my team and I identified the mechanisms, risks and outcomes for financing climate-smart agriculture in developing and emerging markets along with steps on how to improve private sector engagement and implement blended finance mechanisms. As a result, USAID has taken the findings from this deliverable back to their teams to inform and support future programming and financing for climate-smart agriculture.
