Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer

GETTING TO KNOW CRIS

In this role, Cris ensures the company’s compliance with U.S. and foreign laws, reduces and mitigates risk, provides support to the Board of Directors and oversees a global network of more than 70 foreign and domestic law firms advising Creative in the field and at headquarters. Cris and his legal team engage with Creative stakeholders in a wide range of legal matters, particularly corporate, employment law, tax, litigation, partnership and other contractual agreements, intellectual property and regulatory issues.

Cris brings to Creative a professional background in law, policy, advocacy, global development, international trade and non-profit management. Previously, as Executive Director of the Basic Education Coalition, Cris managed a coalition of 17 U.S. based nongovernmental organizations advancing access to literacy, math, critical thinking and life skills for children around the world.

Cris also co-chaired the American Bar Association’s Subcommittee on the Rights of the Child and International Human Rights Committee. Cris also has more than 20 years of experience working for prominent Washington, D.C., law firms as an international trade lawyer.

Cris holds a J.D. from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree in U.S. History and Human Relations from Connecticut College.
