GETTING TO KNOW LARRY
Larry Grayer is the Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Creative. In this role, he oversees Creative’s legal affairs and corporate compliance in addition to providing support to local counsel in more than 30 countries across Europe, Central America, Africa and Asia.
Please explain how your legal expertise supports Creative’s mission-driven work.
I have had the privilege of a legal career that spans more than 20 years, advising senior executives on corporate governance and compliance, commercial and government contracts, labor and employment law and crisis management, among other areas. Most recently, I served as General Counsel for Veterans Moving Forward, a non-profit dedicated to serving veterans with physical or mental challenges. Previously, as General Counsel for the global government services provider DynCorp International, I developed risk management and mitigation policies supporting projects on diplomacy, education, post-conflict resolution and more in 33 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and other regions. I also served as General Counsel for many DynCorp subsidiaries for several years. This depth of global legal experience with government service providers enables me to contribute to Creative’s operations, including the organization’s 40 projects focused on education, economic growth and transitions from conflict to peace around the world.
Do you have an accomplishment in your legal career that you are particularly proud of?
In 2016, I was named among the Top 40 Washington D.C. Corporate Counsels by the DCA publication Trending 40. Additionally, I, and a legal team that I managed, were selected by the Washington Metro Area Corporate Counsel Association as 2014 Finalists in the categories of Outstanding Chief Legal Officer and Outstanding Law Department. I’ve also had the honor to serve on the President’s Committee on Employment for People with Disabilities and I founded an International Disaster Relief Fund, which has supported victims of the 9/11 terrorists attacks and Hurricane Katrina.
