WASHINGTON, D.C. – Creative Associates International is proud to announce that its Education for Development Division was awarded USAID’s Read To Succeed Program (RTS) contract in Zambia. Read To Succeed will support the Zambian Ministry of Education in improving school-level management and learner performance reforms.
A five year effort, RTS is a response to Zambia’s National Implementation Framework and USAID’s Country Development Strategy to increase reading and math scores by 2016. Zambia faces key challenges in meeting these goals. A high pupil-to-teacher ratio averages 57 to 1 and is even higher in rural areas. Only one in five Zambian children complete 12 years of schooling with dropout rates for girls peaking in grades six, seven, and eight. According to the 2008 National Assessment the mean performance of students in reading in English was 35.3 percent and 39.4 percent in Mathematics. Compounding the stagnation in learning is the high attrition rate of teachers due to low salary levels, isolated teaching posts with few amenities and the HIV/AIDS pandemic that causes hundreds of teacher deaths annually. RTS, under implementation from Creative, will seek to reverse this trend.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”sidebar-primary”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
