Creative conducted a social mobilization campaign in Malawi designed to change the attitudes and behaviors of the community--particularly parents with school-age girls--about girls' primary school enrollment and retention. Malawi/Girls` Attainment in Basic Literacy and Education– Policy, Planning & Curriculum (GABLE PPC)

Creative supported Malawi in its efforts to upgrade the quality of primary education by improving planning, policy and curriculum. This assistance was provided through the USAID-funded Girls' Attainment in Basic Literacy and Education-- Policy, Planning, and Curriculum project to increase girls’ attainment in primary education. Creative helped strengthen the capacity of Ministry of Education staff to analyze existing policies, revise the civic education curriculum and develop plans for sustainable improvements in primary education....
 

Malawi Teacher Professional Development Support Program (TPDS)

The Teacher Professional Development Support Program provided support to the Malawi Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to address shortfalls in basic education at the primary school level. The project focused on enhancing teacher performance, improving early grade literacy and numeracy for in-school and out-of-school children, improving the quality of materials and improving primary education-related monitoring and evaluation systems and quality. It provided HIV/AIDS programming for schools, education personnel and orphans and vulnerable children....
 

ABEL II/ MALAWI: SOCIAL MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN FOR HIV/AIDS AWARENESS

The Social Mobilization Campaign for HIV/AIDS Awareness was a pilot project in the Salma District that got schools and their communities actively involved in developing and implementing strategies to identify and modify behavior leading to the proliferation of HIV/AIDS. Students, teachers, religious leaders and community members worked as outreach workers to share information and provide forums for dialogue about HIV/AIDS. ABEL II/ MALAWI: SOCIAL MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN FOR EDUCATIONAL QUALITY

Using baseline data collected in January 1999, Creative prepared a report on the USAID-funded Social Mobilization Campaign for Educational Quality (SMC-EQ) findings, which focused on Malawi’s educational system and popular attitudes towards education. The SMC-EQ followed the model adopted in an earlier Social Mobilization Campaign, where university students used theater for development techniques to learn community viewpoints. ABEL II/ MALAWI: GENDER AWARENESS TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR TEACHER TRAINERS

Creative designed and provided a gender awareness training workshop for primary and secondary school teacher trainers as well as curriculum developers from the Institute of Education. The workshop was based on Creative’s publication, "Beyond Enrollment: A Handbook for Improving Girls' Experiences in Primary Classrooms." Its outcome included the creation of a network of teacher trainers, experienced in developing gender-sensitive materials, who could work together in the future to develop additional materials and discuss best practices. ...
