CREATIVE’S PAST PROJECTS

40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

SWIFT I

Date: September 1998 – September 2003

Creative assisted USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives in responding rapidly to the needs of countries experiencing significant political transition. Technical assistance and the administration of accessible, effective grants designed for maximum impact and community participation were the pillars of meeting the objectives: expanding democratic political processes, strengthening independent media, implementing community-based approaches, supporting peace negotiations and promoting reconciliation. Creative managed projects in Serbia and Montenegro, Peru, Nicaragua and Angola....

 

 

SWIFT I Nicaragua Transition Support Program

Date: January 2001 – January 2003

Creative rapidly developed a short-term plan for a program to improve civic and citizen participation and to protect and promote respect for human rights in Nicaragua. Building on work with the Nicaraguan Center for Development, Creative funded 11 grants for activities related to the 2001 presidential elections to promote free and fair elections, instill democratic values and foster a tradition of peaceful transition. It was funded by USAID....

 

 

SWIFT I Peru Apoyo Creativo para la Transicion

Date: January 2001 – February 2003

Creative developed a two-year project for USAID that disbursed more than 200 grants totaling $6.6 million to Peruvian NGOs working for democratic reform as part of the effort to assist Peru in the post Fujimori era. The activities of the project, Apoyo Creativo para la Transicion, included: assistance to the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, support for congressional reform, improving civil-military relations, confronting corruption and strengthening governance at the local level....

 

 

SWIFT I Serbia and Montenegro Democratic Transition Initiative

Date: November 2000 – December 2002

Creative was awarded the Democratic Transition Initiative which engaged citizens in peaceful democratic change through interethnic-cooperation and community-participation grants, leading to an increased pace of reform in Serbia and Montenegro. The project worked to harness the power of the media and encourage citizens to become decision-makers in community improvement by targeting five key sectors of reform: the judiciary, the economy, local self-governance, anti-corruption and the promotion of minority rights. ...

 

 

SWIFT I Support to Angola’s Democratic Transition

Date: January 2003 – September 2004

Through Angola's Democratic Transition, funded by USAID, Creative increased the capacity of organizations and communities to address concerns by supporting independent media, promoting a culture of advocacy and increasing interaction between citizens and local governments. Activities included radio programs that engaged listeners in open discussions of issues such as reconciliation, land rights and corruption; civil rights training for market women; and creation of parents’ associations to work with administrators on school management....

 

 

SWIFT II

Date: September 2003 – September 2008

SWIFT task orders allowed Creative to draw on more than three decades of experience providing immediate post-conflict assistance, including demobilization and social reintegration of armed forces and high-impact community rehabilitation services....
