40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/AFRICA: TRANSLATION OF “BEYOND ENROLLMENT: A HANDBOOK FOR IMPROVING GIRLS’ EXPERIENCES IN PRIMARY CLASSROOMS”

Date: September - November 1996

At the request of Benin and Mali, the English-language guide produced by Creative, "Beyond Enrollment: A Handbook for Improving Girls' Experiences in Primary Classrooms," was translated into French to meet the demands of trainers, inspectors and teachers in Francophone Africa. One thousand copies were printed and disseminated to assist teacher trainers produce gender-sensitive curriculum materials and to assist teachers using the handbook to improve classroom practices....

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/Africa/Analysis of USAID-Peace Corps Collaboration

Date: April - September 1997

USAID and the Peace Corps have very different approaches to development. The Peace Corps typically focuses on capacity building at a community level, USAID endeavors are planned within comprehensive national development plans and interwoven with complex country strategies. Creative conducted an analysis of how the two organizations had worked together in the past in order to provide positive insight for future joint endeavors. Select projects in Africa, including both successful and unsuccessful collaborative efforts, were identified and reviewed. Recommendations were made for future collaborative efforts. ...

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/CROATIA: IN-SERVICE TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

Date: July - November 1995

Creative provided in-service training for teachers and principals in Croatia who work with predominantly poor and traumatized refugee children from Bosnia in Bosnian schools. The training addressed how to handle the complex problems and situations facing refugee schools, such as dealing with overcrowded or multi-grade classes, resolving conflict, dealing with one’s own stress and grief and working with traumatized students. Teacher training guides were translated into Serbo-Croatian for use by primary education teachers....

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/EGYPT: GIRLS` RIGHTS TO EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT & TRAINING (GREAT)

Date: May - June 1995

Creative conducted a literature review and interviews with education stakeholders to assist the USAID Egypt Mission refine its objectives for girls' and young women's education programs. The original strategic objectives were determined by USAID/Egypt in conjunction with potential customers, including students, Ministry of Education officials, the international donor community, the U.S. and indigenous non-governmental organizations. Creative also conducted workshops and prepared a summary report, which included recommendations for girls' and women's education programs....

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/EGYPT: U.S.-EGYPTIAN PARTNERSHIP FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Date: June 1996

The U.S.-Egyptian Partnership was a cooperative effort to establish a high-level economic dialogue on policies promoting stronger ties between the two countries' private sectors and strategies for solving the challenges Egypt faced in preparing its work force for a free-market economy. In order to facilitate policy discussions on educational improvement through private and public sector linkages, Creative assembled a consortium to address four areas: education practices in a changing economy; education practices and new technology; gender and equity; and community and family partnerships for child development. ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/GHANA: IMPACT OF EDUCATION ON GIRLS

Date: June 1995 - January 1997

By the mid-1990s, government and donor agencies were considering a range of policy changes and programs to target girls' education, limit population growth and improve the child mortality rate. Prior to designing such policies and programs, Creative studied an extended multi-generational family’s social relationships and decision-making process on education and fertility. The research report, “How Educating a Girl Changes the Woman She Becomes: An Intergenerational Study in Northern Ghana,” addresses the impact education has on girls and how that influences their later childbearing and childrearing choices. ...
