40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

ABEL II/ MALAWI: SOCIAL MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN FOR EDUCATIONAL QUALITY

Date: November 1998 - September 1999

Using baseline data collected in January 1999, Creative prepared a report on the USAID-funded Social Mobilization Campaign for Educational Quality (SMC-EQ) findings, which focused on Malawi’s educational system and popular attitudes towards education. The SMC-EQ followed the model adopted in an earlier Social Mobilization Campaign, where university students used theater for development techniques to learn community viewpoints. ABEL II/ MALAWI: SOCIAL MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN FOR HIV/AIDS AWARENESS

Date: July - December 1999

The Social Mobilization Campaign for HIV/AIDS Awareness was a pilot project in the Salma District that got schools and their communities actively involved in developing and implementing strategies to identify and modify behavior leading to the proliferation of HIV/AIDS. Students, teachers, religious leaders and community members worked as outreach workers to share information and provide forums for dialogue about HIV/AIDS. ABEL II/ SOUTH AFRICA: PROJECT DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE FOR ADULT EDUCATION

Date: January - September 1999

Creative tasked a Project Development Specialist to work with a local South African counterpart in the Department of Education's Adult Basic Education and Training sector to raise public awareness about adult education courses in Agriculture and in Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise. The Specialist managed the project, prepared and facilitated training and planning workshops, organized project launches in two provinces and developed promotional materials. ABEL II/ SOUTH AFRICA: TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO BASIC EDUCATION SECTOR

Date: September 1994 - March 1997

Creative provided technical assistance to USAID bilateral programs in support of basic education at the national and provincial levels in South Africa, with a focus on the Eastern Cape and Northern Provinces. Assistance included the support and training of NGO grantees focused on marketing capabilities, sustainability and alternative funding schemes; continued support to the Adult Basic Education Training sector; support to media in education and development communication activities; and general technical support and training that addressed the needs of the National Ministry of Education, the Reconstruction and Development Programme, Provincial Ministries and the Department of Education....

 

 

ABEL II/ UGANDA: PROMOTING GENDER SENSITIVE CLASSROOM PRACTICES UNDER UNICEF COPE PROGRAM

Date: September - October 1996

Creative provided gender awareness training and technical assistance to UNICEF's Complementary Opportunity for Primary Education (COPE) Project, an alternative education program for out-of-school youth that provides five years of primary education in three years. In an effort to make COPE classrooms more equitable for girls, COPE's curriculum writers and national and district supervisors attended a one-day gender sensitivity workshop based on the Creative publication, "Beyond Enrollment: A Handbook for Improving Girls' Experiences in Primary Classrooms."...

 

 

ABEL II/ UGANDA: PROMOTING GENDER-SENSITIVE CLASSROOM PRACTICES UNDER USAID SUPER PROGRAM

Date: September - October 1996

Creative provided gender awareness training and technical assistance to the Support for Uganda Primary Education Reform (SUPER) project, a USAID-sponsored effort to provide the Ministry of Education with technical support to improve primary education. Creative developed instructional materials based on "Beyond Enrollment: A Handbook for Improving Girls' Experiences in Primary Classrooms" for 19 refresher courses; provided gender-sensitivity training for teaching/learning material developers and teacher trainers; and oversaw the development of a plan integrating the lessons into the new Teacher Development and Management System. ...
