GETTING TO KNOW RICHARD
Beyond your job title, please explain your role at Creative.
Since joining Creative in 2012, I now manage the headquarters and field staff who support Stabilization and Development programs. With my experience in the field of stabilization in conflict settings, I also provide advice and guidance to Creative’s leadership team on conflict and post-conflict topics.
What is it that drew you to the company?
While at Booz Allen Hamilton, I partnered with Creative on several projects; it was through doing due diligence on Creative and then working with them that I gained familiarity and respect for the organization and its work.
Do you have an accomplishment or programmatic result that you are particularly proud of?
I am currently leading a team of experts to establish a White Paper that suggests creating a Community of Practice to support the establishment of best practices and measurement standards for improving gender diversity in community security and policing.
What do you appreciate most about Creative’s approach to project implementation?
It is forthright and honest, and executed and implemented by people who care about making a difference.
Do you have a favorite, unique or fascinating country where you have worked?
Turkey: a country of immense diversity that is historically fascinating and also includes the changes it has been going through over the past several decades.
What’s your favorite book?
JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is science fiction grounded in real world problems that arise when diverse nations try to establish common bonds to create coalitions against a greater evil. It is a story about relationships and trust cemented in common efforts, frailty and strength when tested and the notion that individuals and nations can change.
