November 29, 2011
Actor Forest Whitaker holding a Youth Movement Against Violence t-shirt given to him by Osman Canela, a member of the youth movement during the 7th Youth Forum organized by the United Nations. The forum was held in Paris, France and the slogan for this year was “Youth Drive the Change”. Osman is a volunteer for Junior Achievement and a member of the Youth movement Against Violence in Honduras. He was selected by the National Youth Institute of Honduras and deputy UNESCO delegate to Honduras Alejandro Palma Cerno to represent the youth of his country. Osman took this opportunity to address the assembly with a 5-minute presentation in which he spoke about USAID/AJR initiatives to curb violence and provide opportunity to youth in Honduras. Osman was part of a panel along with Forest Whitaker, currently the Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, and took the opportunity to speak to the actor, once again, about the Youth Movement against Violence. The two also discussed the PLACES FOR PEACE, a project directed by Whitaker.
