40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

BEPS/Bulgaria/Combating Human Trafficking

Date: January 2003 – February 2005

Ruse, a Bulgarian town on the border with Romania, lies along one of Eastern Europe’s most popular human trafficking routes. USAID, through its Basic Education Policy Support Activity, engaged a team from Creative to design and implement innovative programs, using education as a force to combat child trafficking and prostitution. The project sought to improve the retention of economically disadvantaged students, particularly ethnic minorities, through teacher training and summer programs, and to provide vocational training, job counseling and life-skills classes for at-risk youths. ...

 

 

BEPS/Burundi/Assessing Options for Reintegration of Ex-Combatants

Date: February 2003 – April 2003

Creative, under the USAID-funded Basic Education and Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, conducted an assessment of youth reintegration for ex-combatants in Burundi for USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives. Creative collaborated with OTI on a program design for demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants into local communities in the country. To inform the design, an initial, two-week assessment of young ex-combatants' reintegration in Burundi following a nearly decade-long conflict was completed. ...

BEPS/Democratic Republic of Congo/Identifying Education and Policy Needs for Demobilized Child Soldiers

Date: June 2000

Creative, under the Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, conducted an assessment of the educational needs of demobilized child soldiers and other war-affected children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The assessment team focused on identifying barriers to the social reintegration process and child soldier demobilization, and also evaluated existing institutional capacity and the monitoring of child soldier recruitment. BEPS/Dominican Republic/Assessing the Education Sector

Date: April 2000 – September 2000

Under the Basic Education and Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, Creative conducted a comprehensive assessment of stakeholders’ perceptions of education policy issues in the Dominican Republic. The goal was to identify unmet needs in order to develop a discussion paper on USAID’s potential role in helping to enhance the country's education sector. Creative identified potential policy initiatives and reforms as well as civil society partnerships that could strengthen the sector. ...

 

 

BEPS/Dominican Republic/Designing a Monitoring and Evaluation System for Education Quality

Date: May 2003 – November 2003

Under the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, Creative produced a report, “Monitoring and Evaluation Preliminary Project--Curriculum Analysis, Test Blueprints, and Evaluation Model,” as part of its effort to design a monitoring and evaluation system for education quality in the Dominican Republic. The investigation addressed the need for detailed curriculum topic information at target grade levels and a characterization of topic introduction, coverage, and conclusion across primary grade levels....
