40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

BEPS/ SIERRA LEONE: FINAL EVALUATION OF THE USAID OFFICE OF TRANSITION INITIATIVES PROGRAM

Date: February 2002

Creative conducted an assessment of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives' peacebuilding programs, including the Youth Reintegration Training and Education for Peace Program and Diamond Management Program, which were designed improve the capacity of local communities to peacefully move from war to peace. Extensive research and in-country interviews found they significantly impacted the peace process, such as in the reintegration of ex-combatants into communities. While areas needed improvement, the program was considered a model for other war-affected communities....

 

 

BEPS/ SOMALIA: EDUCATION SECTOR PROGRAM DESIGN

Date: October 2003 - July 2005

USAID’s interest in supporting Somalia’s stability and further development led to a three-phase strategy to support and complement that country’s USAID education program. Creative, through the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, conducted a comprehensive education sector assessment . Based on the findings, Creative and the BEPS team designed an education program focused on bringing more women and girls into teaching and mobilizing community support....

 

 

BEPS/ SOUTH AFRICA: SUPPORTING EQUITY IN EDUCATION

Date: July - October 2000

The USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support Activity (BEPS) team designed and trained teacher trainers on how to create more inclusive, gender-equitable, child-centered classrooms. Together with South African staff, the BEPS team held briefings with key National Department of Education Directorates and with provincial and district officials. Insights gained from observations and interviews were utilized in designing the training-of-trainers workshop, which preceded a national training workshop....

 

 

BEPS/ SWAZILAND: AFRICA BUREAU EDUCATION WORKSHOP

Date: September - November 2003

The challenges and successes of education reform in Africa were examined at the Africa Bureau Education Workshop in Swaziland. The workshop, conducted under the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support Activity (BEPS), addressed assistance through systemic education reform, enhancement of cross-sectorial programming and partnerships, and facilitation of the formation of new partnerships to maximize future education reform efforts. The 252 participants from 26 countries became informed of, and more involved with, the African Education Initiative....

 

 

BEPS/ UGANDA: ASSESSMENT OF COMPLEMENTARY AND NONFORMAL EDUCATION

Date: July to September 2002

Setting an education budget requires a comprehensive assessment of programmatic and cost options. Creative, through the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support Activity (BEPS), helped estimate the cost of non-formal education programs, or complementary, basic education programs and assess if those programs should be expanded and incorporated into Uganda’s universal primary education policy. Five education programs and their community benefits, budgetary impact and student opportunity costs were identified and compared to determine which best met basic educational needs....

 

 

BEPS/ UGANDA: SUPPORTING EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS THROUGH EDUCATION SECTOR INVESTMENT PROGRAM (ESIP)

Date: March 2000 - April 2002

An experienced education specialist with expertise in teacher training policy was sent by Creative to conduct three semi-annual reviews of the Education Sector Investment Plan (ESIP) and provide technical assistance to the ESIP Teacher Training Working Group. Funding for subsequent six-month periods was contingent on progress in meeting conditions as determined in the semi-annual reviews and developing strategies furthering Uganda's basic education reform goals....
