40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

BEPS/Africa/Assistance to the USAID Africa Bureau

Date: September 2000 – November 2003

Creative Associates, as part of the USAID- funded Basic Education and Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, assisted the Africa Bureau's Office of Sustainable Development in strengthening the capacity of African education systems in a broad range of emerging educational needs. These included technical services related to capacity building and policy dialogue for the education sector, with special attention given to HIV/AIDS and countries emerging from crisis....

 

 

BEPS/Africa/War, Urbanization and Africa`s Youth at Risk

Date: January 2003 – December 2003

In addition to persistent and pervasive urban unemployment, urban youth in Africa face water and housing shortages, collapsing school and health facilities, high crime rates, a prevalence of HIV/AIDS and other diseases, a tottering economic environment, and ever-increasing populations due to urban migration. Creative produced a study, "War, Urbanization, and Africa's Youth At Risk," that analyzes the challenges youth living in Africa’s cities face and proposes recommendations for improving employment opportunities and participation in civil society....

 

 

BEPS/Angola: Mid-term Evaluation of Alfalit Adult Literacy Program

Date: April 2004 – May 2004

Creative evaluated the adult literacy program in Angola implemented by Alfalit International, Inc., a faith-based nonprofit organization located in Miami, Florida. Creative’s evaluators found that the Alfalit activity in Angola attained impressive accomplishments but the effort was not achieving the projected large-scale community impact and was not sustainable programmatically. Evaluators recommended that USAID share both its concerns and its institutional know-how and provide Alfalit with qualified external assistance. ...

 

 

BEPS/Bangladesh/Education Sector Appraisal

Date: September 2001 – July 2004

Creative Associates, under the USAID-funded Basic Education and Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, assisted USAID/Bangladesh in understanding the challenges to the basic education sector and helped to identify and assess potential entry points for basic education assistance. Creative also assisted in planning and implementing three educational sector studies on Early Childhood Learning, Students’ and Teachers’ Use of Time in Primary Schools and Madrassah Schools in Bangladesh....

 

 

BEPS/Bolivia/Evaluation of Alfalit Adult Literacy Program

Date: May 2003 – June 2003

Creative undertook a mid-term evaluation of the Alfalit adult literacy program in Bolivia. The purpose of the evaluation, which was conducted under the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, was to assess how the project was progressing and how it could be improved under its second phase. The evaluation found that literacy students in Bolivia were learning to read, write, and do basic arithmetic in 9-10 months, and that Alfalit had successfully instilled in students the concept that literacy is a means to increase their skills....

 

 

BEPS/Brazil/Assistance to Development of Strategy to Reduce Abusive Child Labor

Date: June 2000

Millions of children and youth in Brazil work, despite labor conventions, with about one in five working under hazardous and abusive conditions. Creative Associates, under the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, provided technical assistance to USAID/Brazil in developing a preliminary strategy for using basic education to reduce abusive child labor. The strategy proposed strengthening basic education and non-formal education activities with assistance to family support structures, coordination and integration of child labor policies, and better implementation of these policies at all levels. ...
