CREATIVE’S PAST PROJECTS

40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/UGANDA: ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF PRIMARY EDUCATION PROGRAM

Date: November 1991 - March 1992

Prior to the implementation of the Primary Education Program, Creative conducted an analysis of Uganda’s primary education system to assess USAID’s best economic and financial options for increasing access, improving quality and reducing dropout and repetition rates. A follow-up report proposed policy and national level interventions, with attention given to structural adjustment efforts and viable delivery systems....

 

 

ABEL I IQC – ABEL I/YEMEN: WOMEN`S UNION BASIC EDUCATION EFFORTS

Date: July - August 1992

The Yemeni Women’s Union, in agreement with the Ministry of Education, provides primary school equivalency programs to women and girls. In response to efforts by the USAID Mission in Yemen and the Yemeni Women's Union to expand opportunities for female participation, Creative evaluated the 11 Women's Union branches for their potential to increase the number of girls who access and complete primary school. Creative published its evaluation findings in "Expanding Opportunities for Yemeni Women: Exploring the Provision of Basic Literacy through the Yemeni Women's Union." ...

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/ AFRICA: AFRICA BUREAU- INFORMATION, ANALYSIS AND POLICY DIALOGUE FOR EDUCATION REFORM

Date: June 1995 - February 1996

Creative researched and wrote one of the documents in a series of papers intended to map out an approach to support the process of education reform in Africa as part of the USAID Africa Bureau's work on Education Reform Support. The paper was entitled, "Information, Analysis and Policy Dialogue for Education Reform: Strategies for Increasing Stakeholder Participation in the Policy Dialogue Process." Intended audiences included the Ministries of Education, educational administrators, USAID Missions in Africa and all stakeholders within and outside of education ministries. This latter group included parents, the business community, teachers and owners of private schools. ...

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/ AFRICA: ANALYSIS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Date: July - September 1997

In the course of designing and implementing basic education programs in Africa, USAID conducted extensive studies on the formulation of policy and on programmatic results. Missing was an analysis of how the programs themselves were implemented in the field. Creative was contracted to examine the implementation of education programs in three African countries (Benin, Uganda and Malawi) to inform policymakers, program designers and the program implementers in USAID and African Ministries of Education....

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/ CAMBODIA: RADIO FEASIBILITY STUDY

Date: January - March 1997

Faced with human and physical constraints to development, Cambodia explored the potential use of radio broadcasts to deliver programming on rural development, education and democracy building/electoral issues. A consortium studied the feasibility of establishing such a radio network that would be managed by U.S. Private Voluntary Organizations and NGOs. Creative’s team studied the cultural and legal regulatory aspects while other organizations looked at programmatic and technical issues....

 

 

ABEL II IQC – ABEL II/ GLOBAL: A COMPENDIUM OF CLASSROOM PRACTICES– “BEYOND ENROLLMENT: A HANDBOOK FOR IMPROVING GIRLS` EXPERIENCES IN PRIMARY CLASSROOMS”

Date: February - November 1995

Under the USAID-funded Advancing Basic Education & Literacy (ABEL II) project, Creative produced a compendium of classroom practices entitled, "Beyond Enrollment: A Handbook for Improving Girls' Experiences in Primary Classrooms." The publication discusses how different pedagogical practices affect girls, and looks at gender and its impact on classroom practices. The report includes chapters on curriculum, instruction and guidance, language and speech, managing time and space and sexuality (e.g., sexual harassment; marriage, pregnancy, and child rearing)....
